Party’s Here

Maury and Nancy had outgrown their sopping-wet lawn-centered landscape. Their current lifestyle called for more grown-up entertaining and a much more sophisticated look. I designed a generous Ipe deck with stainless steel cable railings and wide easy-to-navigate steps to provide dining space next to the kitchen and access to the patio below. A brimming steel box water feature is centered on a curving steel and clear cedar pergola, which blocks the view of a neighboring house. A rain garden planted with native rushes collects and diverts (copious amounts of) rain water around the patio and down the hill. The patio is paved with Cut Bluestone and features a soft green divider.

A dedicated lawn at the side yard is just the right size for lawn bowling and dog playing.

The front yard design takes advantage of mature maples, while updating plantings and adding lovely cedar and black-steel screens. Drought tolerant plantings have replaced lawn in the outer reaches of the property.
